1 Day Trip To The Blue Town of Chefchaouen From Fes

The one-day journey from Fes to Chefchaouen kicks off at 8:00 AM from your accommodation. We’ll head north in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle for about three hours to reach the picturesque town of Chefchaouen. Along the route, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Rif Mountains and the rolling hills of Ouezzane, with plenty of stops to soak in the scenery, breathe the fresh air, and snap some great photos. Tucked away inland from Tangier and Tetouan, Chefchaouen known to locals as Chaouen was founded as a fortress in the 1400s. It’s best known for its charming blue-painted houses, handmade wool goods, and tasty goat cheese. The town’s name comes from the mountain peaks above, which look like goat horns. Thanks to its plentiful water, the surrounding mountains are dotted with mineral-rich caves. Stop at a mountain viewpoint for stunning views of Chefchaouen before arriving at noon. Spend four hours strolling the town’s narrow, winding streets. Explore the medina, rich with Arab-Andalusian traditions, and visit the central Plaza Uta El-Hammam, home to the striking 15th-century Grand Mosque and kasbah. The mosque, featuring a distinctive octagonal tower, was built by Jewish refugees who fled Spanish persecution alongside Muslims. Discover the area’s history and culture at the Kasbah Museum or Ethnographic Museum, where you’ll find musical instruments, antique weapons, and historical photographs. Don’t miss the famous Ras El-Maa Waterfall, where you can breathe in fresh air, listen to the soothing rush of water, and take in the lush green hills.
